Writing Community Centre

In March, we were delighted to find out that we had won a new award: Copywriting Services of the Year – UK!

Our award feedback reads:

“The judges were impressed with your personal touch, online activity/range of services and community feel. You have certainly dedicated a lot of time and effort to be recognised. We have had a large number of results in for this year’s Innovation Awards program and, after shortlisting you for the category: Copywriting Services of the YearUK, you have been selected as our WINNER!

We wanted to build on this as it has been such positive news for us. Therefore, we decided to enhance the elements of our business that the judges have highlighted as the reasons why they chose us to be the award-winning copywriting services UK – yes, UK!

New Chapter Online

We have debated starting a TikTok channel for a while, but winning this copywriter award was the push we needed. So, with the help of the wonderful Sophie and Susie, the new TikTok channel has been created. It’s definitely been a labour of love, but we have done it for multiple reasons, all with our community at heart.

The concept is a multi-pronged approach with the aim to:

  • EDUCATE in literary concepts;
  • COMMUNICATE with lovers of books, poetry, reading and writing;
  • BUILD a community of readers and writers;
  • ENCOURAGE more reading and writing to occur across the UK, and
  • Hold GIVEAWAYS/PRIZE DRAWS for our followers to enter.

Community Matters

We set up our TikTok account in the hope that there would be a little bit of something for everyone; whether you are wanting to learn a fun fact from the literary world to impress your family with, find a new book to read, or contact a professional book editor to assist with your manuscript before you self-publish – there is something for everyone at every stage of the literary journey.

Loosely, our week of posting looks like this (although, we do not always succeed!):

Day of the week Type of Post
Monday
Literary fact
Tuesday
Famous book quotes / guess the author
Wednesday
Book review video from Sophie – Book Bundle
Thursday
Question from The Yorkshire Editor
Friday
Editing services: promotion

Competition Giveaway

Every Wednesday, our book reviewer, Sophie, records a video about one specific book so that our followers can see if it is a book they would potentially be interested in reading or not. It also gives them a safe space to share their views on this particular book and author, should they wish to. This is a great way for us to get conversations started!

With there (usually) being four Wednesdays in a month, this leaves us with four books at the end of each month that Sophie has read and reviewed. But we initially had no idea what to do with them. So, we decided to create a monthly competition giveaway with the four books as a prize book bundle.

Book Bundle Beliefs

We decided to create free book bundle giveaways each month because:

We want to RECYCLE:

  • Finding an effective method of how to recycle books was something we cared deeply about and a message we wanted to share with our followers: books do not have to be new to be a gift!
  • We would rather recycle books than have them filling our office and certainly not ending up in landfill – recycling is the most responsible option!
  • Recycling books actually enables us to share more books, which, in itself, is a gift! Yes, we take plenty of books to charity shops, one of which is particularly dear to the hearts of many a Sheffield dweller: St Luke’s.

We want our COMMUNITY to have MORE BOOKS TO READ:

  • More people are able to read more if we share resources – after all, sharing is caring!
  • We want to encourage more people to read more books and, unlike many hobbies, reading is something that costs relatively little by comparison, can be done at a time to suit you, and there’s a genre for everyone.
  • Many people are currently struggling financially, but reading is something that can be participated in by any socio-economic party, age group or ability.

We want to INCREASE AUTHOR DISCOVERY:

  • This is the perfect way to showcase lesser-known authors and a wide array of authors;
  • We want to introduce you to famous authors, female authors and indie/alternative authors like Sarah J Maas, who has risen to popularity in the romantasy genre, selling approximately 40 million books;
  • Readers can discover books by the best-selling authors of all time that they may never have read the works of before, assumed they’d never have been interested in, or might not have been able to find copies of these books.

We want to help our COMMUNITY:

  • Reading helps reduce screen time;
  • Paper books/reading, as opposed to something like gaming, means less electricity being used – not only is reducing screen time kinder on the planet, but it’s also kinder on your pocket;
  • Enhance your mental health and use books as escapism – you really can feel as if you are in another world!
  • Books can be the start of a whole new circle of friends – ever thought about joining your local book club?
  • If you find socialising difficult, you’ll never be stuck for conversation if you’re a reader; you’ll always have something to say, discuss or ask.

Want to Win our Book Bundle?

To enter, all you have to do is:

  • Follow our TikTok page @theyorkshireeditor;
  • Tag one person on a book review video who you think would enjoy reading any of the books in that month’s book bundle. We show you all of the books available in the bundle for the month – you can tag this video, too;
  • Make sure that you live in the UK so that we can post the book bundle to you, if you are selected at random as the winner.

That’s it – it really is that simple!

We wanted to make our competition giveaway as easy and accessible to all as we could. Head over to our TikTok page @theyorkshireeditor and be part of our new community. We would love to see you there!

Life’s a pitch!

Does this ring a bell?

Well, it is absolutely the case for some people when it comes to dealing with words in general; they get frustrated, are ill at ease and don’t know where to turn to for help. Well, that’s where we come in! Using our degrees, specialist qualifications, vast experience and the perfect amount of patience, we have helped hundreds (if not thousands) of clients to become more successful in their specialist industries and genres.

Line Editing

Occurring AFTER Substantive and/or Developmental Editing, if you wish to make sure that your text is looking sharp, tight and “on point”, then this is the edit for you! Enhance your style, ease of readability, and get that professional polished feel. As its name suggests, we will scrutinise your choice of words line-by-line to discover what impact your words have and examine the words you have chosen to use, taking clarity into consideration, too.

Copy Editing

This is where attention to the literal words on the page is paid. We delve into the grammar, spelling, quality of writing, the tone and style of writing, consistency, continuity, and whether the writing is appropriate for the audience it is aimed at.

Mechanical Editing

While the stereotypical “Mechanical Editing” is to ensure that an author/writer is adhering specifically to a Style Guide or Referencing System, like Harvard, which we are more than capable of doing, we generally do things a little differently around here. Why? Because we are asked so frequently to help people either change their language style into a native UK British English written form, or to adhere to a specific Dictionary when checking, amending and editing writings and manuscripts, such as Oxford, Cambridge, or Collins, amongst others.

Fact-checking

A commonly overlooked, but essential area of editing is fact-checking. Not only does this increase your credibility and the accuracy of your writing, but it also ensures that you are legally and ethically protected. Though this SHOULD occur as part of the Copy Editing process, it is often missed out or not completed to a high enough standard by some editors. Therefore, we offer this as a service all on its own, if necessary.

The Big Combo

What do you do if you require multiple or all of the above editing services? You request The Big Combo! Combining Line, Copy and Mechanical Editing, along with Fact-checking. This is our most popular service and there’s a good reason for this: it saves writers/authors/businesses a lot of time and an enormous amount of money, at the same time as ensuring the highest quality final product that you will, for certain, be proud of!

Proofreading

Has your text been edited already but you need a final pair of eyes to look it over? Proofreading is an essential final check that ensures all errors are flagged and amended BEFORE your text gets published. The aim of this service is to ensure that any spelling, grammar and punctuation errors are caught before the eyes of the public see your writing. Typographical and formatting errors (the aesthetics) can be flagged here, too. This may be the final service before publication but you’d be amazed at what we pick up here! You should also be aware that if your proofreader finds a high volume of errors, they can also recommend that it goes back to your editor at this point.

Paid Beta Reading

Send us a copy of your pre-completed/edited manuscript so that we can read through it as if we were the desired target audience. We will highlight any challenges, inconsistencies and plot holes, as well as provide you with a report containing feedback to help you enhance your work. Alternatively, some authors prefer to send us a list of questions to answer instead of us writing a report for them, which is a totally viable option if that’s what you prefer. As long as we can help ensure that you are giving the very best of yourself on the page, we do not mind what format of feedback you prefer.

Specialist Services

As a fully qualified teacher, Katie, BA (Hons), PGCE, QTS, MA, uses her experience, expertise and knowledge to assist writers in the following areas (and more!):
- Dyslexia;
- Assistance with English as an Additional Language (EAL);
- Literacy enhancement;
- Phonetic spelling correction;
- Transition from US to UK British English.

Copywriting

Are you looking to sell a product or service? Needing a writer to focus on persuading readers to convert from being solely readers to purchasing your product or the service you provide?

Copywriting is designed purely to persuade the reader to buy or use your service or product and is targeted at sales and eCommerce. It is meant to be attention grabbing!

We love writing for Amazon, Walmart, Product Expert, Ergo Adaptive, Gift Ideas Mag, and so many more businesses as a copywriter to help enhance their sales of the products and services they provide.

Content Writing

Do you know the two E’s of content writing? The purpose of content writing is to Educate or Entertain. Alternatively, content writing can also have the purpose to instruct a reader.

If you’re looking to build relationships with your readers, then this is the service you would require, as they would start turning to you for advice. This style of writing is all about engagement and value.

Content writing tends to be longer in length and strategy, but being consistent with a blog, for example, would lay a healthy foundation for future sales/services you may wish to provide.

Typing

Have you written something out with a trusty pen and paper, but now need it typed out? If you don’t have the facilities, the time or the inclination, we can type it all out for you AND proofread our work, too.

Puzzle Editing

Do you have something that you would like us to offer as a service but you cannot see as a service currently available?

Don’t panic! Just send us a message and we will be sure to help you out in any way we can. If it’s a wordy problem, we will be sure to find a solution wherever possible!

Your Ideas

Do you have something that you would like us to offer as a service but you cannot see as a service currently available?

Don’t panic! Just send us a message and we will be sure to help you out in any way we can. If it’s a wordy problem, we will be sure to find a solution wherever possible!
